| Agave lechuguilla
Shin Dagger, Lechuguilla
A small but vigorous species that forms dense clusters of rosettes with stiff, upright, pale or yellowish green leaves. It is native to New Mexico and western Texas in the U.S. and in Mexico from Tamaulipas south to Hidalgo, where it is found on rocky ground at altitudes between 900 and 2100 m (3000 and 7000 ft.), often carpeting large areas. It adapts easily to cultivation in a temperate climate and succeeds in a variety of garden environments as long as it has a well drained spot in full sun. It is hardy to severe freezes as well as drought conditions.
