Inhabiting the very dry northeast of Mexico, this smallish palm produces a slow growing, rough, solitary trunk that holds an open crown of light green fan leaves. Extremely tolerant of drought conditions, it is a great choice for desert gardens, but has proven to be adaptable to a wide range of warm temperate climates and can handle moderate freezes without harm.
