A very large and extremely fast growing wild banana from the mountain forests of southern Yunnan, China. Its reddish pseudostems can reach a diameter of more than 50 cm (20 in.) and a height of 12 m (40 ft.). The purplish fruits are popular with monkeys. Musa itinerans displays good root hardiness and will thrive under the same conditions as the legendary Musa basjoo and M. sikkimensis.
