A small, trunkless species native to central
Texas , where it is found in rocky limestone areas at altitudes of 300 to 800 m (1000 to 2600 ft.). The rosettes of twisted, sharp-edged, waxy leaves form clusters of varying size. The exceptionally tall inflorescences can reach 4 m (13 ft.) and carry large white flowers on short branches. A hardy species that requires a sunny spot with excellent drainage; well worth growing for its unusual flowering structure.
